Everyone in education, regardless of their role, has asked the questions, “What are we doing, why are we doing it, and how does it all connect?” Usually, these questions are not voiced and appear to manifest as a lack of enthusiasm or an unwillingness to accept the current direction.

Leadership will often express that they are trying to get “buy-in” or to “get people on board.” In my experience, this has proven an ineffective approach that prioritises the path of least resistance instead of striving for optimal outcomes.

What appears to be resistance
is most often simply a lack of clarity.

The biggest disconnect for schools is between our strategic priorities and the evidence of their success in our practice. Because of this disconnect, few truly understand their role and how their actions contribute to success as a result of the lack of clarity as to purpose and outcomes.
